About me

How I Work

As psychotherapists we know plenty of techniques that have been scientifically shown to be effective in changing behaviours and experiences for a large number of people. At the same time, you find yourself in your own, unique life situation – including your very own personal resources and challenges.

In my work, I try to integrate both – meaning: wherever possible, to draw on methods that have been proven to be effective in many studies already, yet to always tailor our course of action to your unique situation and goals. To this end, we would always start out by taking time to understand in detail what it is that you’re struggling with, what other factors it might be connected with, what you’d wish for and (based on all of that) how change could look like in practice. Thus, it would always ultimately be you in the driver’s seat, deciding which kind of changes you choose to pursue – or not to. I’d assist you in making an informed decision, assessing the scope and consequences of that decision and in implementing possibly difficult, but worthwhile changes. Sometimes this clarification and decision-making process can be rather quick and our work will focus mainly on the implementation of behavioural changes. Other times we might need a bit more time to unravel all the details and identify how exactly to understand the problem – and a possible solution.

My understanding of psychotherapy or counselling is that of a safe space in which we collaborate in trying to solve problems – you being the expert of your life and your experience, me providing expertise in psychotherapeutic practice and methods of change. I understand it as part of my job to challenge you at times and help you tackle uncomfortable topics as well in order for change to be possible and sustainable. This can feel quite challenging sometimes, but not rarely comes with moments of humour and shared laughter as well. The premise for all of that is a therapeutic alliance of trust and authenticity in which you can open up, and experience that you and your difficulties will be met with respect and positive regard.
